Hydraulic Ram Overground Gate Automation System

Hydraulic Ram Overground Gate Automation System

Another option in the family of overground systems is the Hydraulic ram overground gate automation system. This is a much larger system, not often used on domestic gates, but occasionally it is required.

So, how is this system different?

This type of system is called a hydraulic ram, but that's not really the complete story. As well as being a ram, it also contains al the elements of a hydraulic system in one complete unit. There's the ram itself, which turns the power into movement as it extends and contracts. The power unit, which turns the electrical power into hydraulic force by pumping the fluid. The reservoir tank, which stores the fluid and allows it to cool. Lastly, there are the valves, which changes the direction of fluid flow (for opening or closing the gate) and the manual release.

It's a complex system that is all incorporated in one neat unit. It's simple looking exterior belies the complex internal engineering.

Hydraulic ram overground gate automation system

The hydraulic ram overground gate automation system is normally used on very large gates or gates that are operated frequently

The Hydraulic Ram Overground Gate Automation System is designed for large gates and for gates that are being used frequently. Typically used on gates to apartment complex car parks and commercial installations. The Hydraulic Ram Overground Gate Automation System is designed to operate continuously if required. Different sixes of ram are available for different gate leaf lengths. You can have a single leaf length of up to 7m (that's 23ft in old money) automated with this system.

They are also suited for large domestic gates - maybe where the gate is very heavy or very long. We've installed them on large wooden gates where wind loading was a concern too.

This system brings the advantages of a hydraulic system, without the need for separate power packs and hydraulic hoses. However, there is a catch. Where the gate might be prone to vandalism, or where the leaf length exceeds, it is advisable to have an electric lock installed. the lock is there to protect the rams against the gates being forced open. With enough force - these rams may be forced, which may damage the valves and seals within the ram.

The hydraulic ram overground gate automation system is suited for high traffic gates, but they will require regular maintenance, with oil levels and quality to be monitored and changed, and valve and seals to be looked after. Like any machine that does a lot of work, it needs looking after.

In the event of a loss of electricity supply, the hydraulic ram overground gate automation system incorporates a manual release system. The manual release is protected against tampering by a locked lid. When the lid is opened, all you have to do to open the gates is to turn a little tap off. This is easy to do and no special tooling is required. Just your thumb and fore-finger. To re-engage the rams, you just turn the tap the opposite direction, and it doesn't matter which position the gates are n to do this. the system will always correct itself to the "Home" position again.

So, in summary, the hydraulic ram overground gate automation system is generally used on commercial gates, but it is also suited for large, heavy wooden domestic gates. They are a quiet, reliable and safe system and are designed to operate continuously if required.
